Our Trip to Michigan

After taking his test Joel was ready for a vacation, so we headed to Michigan. (I had one more week before I couldn't travel too far from Des Moines.) We decided to hit up Big Star Lake (my grandparent's cottage) first. It was my family's week. Over the weekend though it was just my brother's family and Joel and I. It was a lot of fun. (I hope you can read the captions on the pictures.)

(Joel caught a garter snake and man it was a hit with Peyton!)
We ended up being in Michigan for Joel's birthday. So, his mom made a delicious birthday dinner--kabobs! Joel got his favorite: shrimp and scallops. His other birthday wish was to go to the beach for the sunset.

We got to hang out with Scott and Stephanie one night at Oval Beach. It was fun. We took the kayak and played around on that. Joel also went sailing that day. Although it may look like it, I did not go. I went when they were prepping the boat, so Joel could get a picture of me on it. We also wanted to take a picture of one of the many roads washed out by the major rain/thunderstorm that they got the first night we were in Michigan. We ended the evening at Aren and Leah's and got an updated picture of Henry meeting Blueberry. :)The pictures below are from our car ride back to Des Moines. We took it really easy and decided to stop at the Amana Colonies to check something else off our Iowa bucket list. It was fun. We had a late lunch and then Joel was able to take some pictures of a barn, countryside, and hay bales.
